Right now the complete story is not available for purchase anywhere, and I think the saga that Kate Worley and I created was in a lot of ways, decades ahead of its time. It was a real-life drama that covered things that weren't covered seriously back in the 1980s. "The Flower Chamber," after much pre-production, is being drawn and painted at last, and I am now working on page 6 of the first 12-page installment done.
If my trusty old computer doesnt explode doing this work, things will be progressing with much more speed now. (If it DOES explode, I have everything backed up, and all the backup backed up, too.)

That's right, Larry Welz is back, and so am I, with Cherry #23, the first issue published in 20 years. Cherry is resuming publication, and I will be appearing in Cherry with installments of my new story, "The Flower Chamber. This issue I'm on the back cover, and the story will start next time.

Well, with all the stuff going on, I'm still managing to plod along with "The Flower Chamber." It's a good thing I had no idea what I was getting into. After months of research, I started preparing for the visuals. At last I'm making some progress. This is a test rendering of the far-from-completed exterior of the House of Hathor. Some textures have been finished, but a lot more work needs to Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-54666530218216519382019-10-13T10:01:00.000-07:002019-10-13T10:02:05.849-07:00German Omaha UpdateNews from Verlag Schreiber und Leser, German publishers. Translation of Omaha the Cat Dancer is proceeding apace, and for those interested, this edition will be available worldwide. Just in German. So technically, Omaha is soon to be back in print. THE FLOWER CHAMBER is the working title of my new series, which stars Omaha as The Goddess Hathor Reborn, in a Domed City of the Future after the Great Economic Collapse, trying to make it work between Men and Women in an uncertain world, from an Egyptian palace under the dome where love is being dispensed for free.
This is a piece that is partly Science Fiction and partly allegory, and of Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-32061305799120244712019-09-12T23:44:00.002-07:002019-09-12T23:44:23.578-07:00Science fiction is HARD WORK!
I've been reading this stuff my whole life, but I've never had to write any. When we did Omaha, Kate and I didn't have to make anything up, we just gleaned stuff from our own lives and the life of the city we lived in. We were never short on material. We didn't have to do any world-building.
I'm pretty good with dialog, but I'm not used to the Herculean task of world-building like my SF writer Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-3092820221141746562019-09-12T23:43:00.003-07:002019-09-12T23:43:50.627-07:00OMAHA THE CAT DANCER REFUSES TO DIE continued
Well, here we go. After decades of isolation, i thought I was safely dead and buried for the second time, but someone has goaded me into activity at my advanced age.
While I am assisting in the production of a German revival of Omaha the Cat Dancer, I am now also hard at work on a new project and reviving my signature character.
Heaven help me, it is turning out to be science fiction story! IUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-48462014260076030742019-04-27T11:52:00.001-07:002019-04-27T11:52:43.741-07:00Omaha to Germany!
Okay, I just heard from Denis, and apparently, we have a deal with the German publisher to reprint the Complete Omaha the Cat Dancer in Germany (in German of course). We have to get our digital originals to them, but it looks like it's going to happen, and the money is reasonable. This comes at a great time when both Jodi and I have some medical bills to pay, as do we all. FROM FACEBOOK:
Omaha the Cat Dancer simply refuses to die. Despite the fact that the final volume produced by me and the late Jim Vance came out in time for Comicon in 2013, NBM's promotion didn't last much longer than that, and we were in the position of having a last volume (which took us 7 years to finish} that practically no one realized existed. And now, of course, it's out of print.

So I'm alone for Thanksgiving. That's fine, I have my TV. I want to watch a big, fancy, spectacular fantasy adventure movie-movie! And I want it good old-fashioned way-out-there nonsense like I used to read about, and I don't want anyone to insult my intelligence by trying to make it look realistic. Ah, just the thing! I'm sick of Dark and Gritty.
The proliferation of superhero comics movies (an economic necessity for the theater business) has brought a tedious sameness to the action on the big screen.
"Dark and Gritty = Realistic" has become an aesthetic law that cannot be broken.
This juvenile approach to seeming mature, has completely taken over mass media, probably because comic books have takenUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-31279422519160915292017-07-19T23:36:00.000-07:002017-07-19T23:36:06.046-07:00"Ed Wood" Re-revisited -- Martin Landau (1928-2017)
Of course, in memory of Martin Landau, I had to watch "Ed Wood" again.
It would be hard to think of any other film ever made that so perfectly says everything important that needs to be said about the creative spirit.
Every time I view this film, I'm moved even more than before by its universality, by the canonization of Ed Wood as Everyman Artist, and of course by the heartbreaking spectacleUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-34916956327466211082017-06-16T00:58:00.001-07:002017-06-16T00:58:40.458-07:00James Vance (1953-2017)
I guess it's okay now to report sadly that Kings in Disguise and later Omaha the Cat Dancer writer Jim Vance passed away June 5, after a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Jim and Kate Worley were married about 10 years when she passed away in 2004. At that time she and I, with agent Denis Kitchen, were negotiating on a new publication of Omaha the Cat Dancer with 150 new pages to complete Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-74492069139495306262017-03-21T13:46:00.000-07:002019-04-21T14:30:23.001-07:00Happy Birthday, Kate Worley
Kate would have been 59 last Thursday. She was a tall and hard-to-miss fixture in Minneapolis fandom, and in the music circle, and in Shockwave Radio.

Omaha
Omaha fans are waiting for Omaha material old and new to appear here, but that's going to have to wait.
What I'm waiting for, is for Jim Vance and Jo to give me the keys to the omahathecatdancer.com site so that either it can be updated or I can move some material to my site and add links. Due to health reasons, there hasn't been any update on the "Omaha" official site since 2008. With Omaha the Cat Dancer finally finished, I'm retired. Now it's time to start cleaning up the mess online.
This blog has never been kept up, and it's likely that it will be closed down after I make some progress on my new site, at reedwalleromaha.com.

This link now works again!
The Cowboy Hacker Queen!
This song was created for Nellie's first album in 1999, when cyberpunk was still fun, and the mix of digital 3D animation, computer generated audio, and vintage pop music was a novelty. Having the Andrews Sisters do a cyberpunk ballad seemed like a natural.

Okay, it looks like I'll have a little time to write, finally.
San Diego Comicon was quite an experience. I hadn't been out of my village for nearly 10 years, and though I was working with Jim Vance on completing the book, it was going at a snail's pace and seemed like working in the coal mine, except for the encouragement of the people on the Cat Dancing With Omaha Yahoo group, who kept us Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6179106.post-11626704932329249602013-06-25T20:57:00.004-07:002013-06-25T21:03:19.576-07:00Back in Commission
Okay, it's been eight years since I published a blog post. Once Jim and I actually got working on the new Omaha pages, I had precious little energy to do this, and whatever comments or communication I had went straight to the members of the "Cat-Dancing-With-OMAHA™" Yahoo Group.
